software technical requirements All our systems are fully multi-user, LAN/WAN enabled, run on standard PCs running MS Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, and are fully scaleable from a single user right up to many hundred users. The software is true client/server and requires the use of a SQL database. For the single user or smaller sites (up to 5 users) we generally Firebird / Inprise Interbase, while larger sites with in-house IT staff we would recommend Microsoft SQL Server. Due to the varied environments in which the software can run, it is difficult to offer precise hardware requirements here. However, a single user system can work effectively on a standard PC running Windows 95/98 with 64Mb RAM and 2Gb disk (if local audience survey data is required). We have ensured that the laptop user is catered for. For a site with up to five users, as a minimum we would recommend: Server : Windows NT4/2000/XP workstation, P450, 128Mb RAM, 18Gb disk Clients : Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP, P166, 32Mb RAM MS Small Business Server pack can be considered for the operating system software. For larger sites, we would recommend that the server is upgraded to use MS Back Office (Windows NT Server/2000 Server and MS SQL Server 7/2000) and additional RAM installed (128-256Mb) but the basic client PC specification could remain as above. For the largest sites running all software components we would recommend a starting point of dual Pentium processors (with additional expansion space for future growth) with 4Gb of RAM and 120GB of Raid disk. Whilst sales uses require only a standard PC, users of the traffic system require both more memory (128 Mb recommended) and a higher resolution (1024 * 768) display. These should be taken as a guideline only – your own requirements may well allow or demand different hardware. One of our IT specialists would advise you on how to get the best out of our systems with your hardware. |
